Machine Embroidery on Calico
This piece is my take on a botanical illustration of a gingko leaf, a native tree to Japan, and one of the oldest tree species in the world.
The fan shaped leaves are unique and turn from a bright green to a warm yellow in the Autumn.
The gingko is a symbol of resilience, healing and longevity. The leaves are often used in supplements for a variety of health benefits.
The work is made by drawing using the sewing machine, guiding the fabric under the needle by hand to create the image.
The fabric is stretched over a timber frame and has a wire for hanging.
